There is much to discover in Oregon and the surrounding area. We invite you to take a ride through our area to explore the beauty of the Rock River, our scenic area parks, the quiet farmlands, the history of Ronald Reagan and John Deere, the Bison at Nachusa Grasslands and much more.
Following is a link to ten routes of varying length and difficulty. All routes originate at the historic Oregon Depot and return to Oregon. The routes vary from 24 to 44 miles in length and for the most part follow quiet paved roads throughout Ogle County. The last route is for the more adventuresome rider and uses some less traveled gravel road.
Community Bike Trail
A cooperative effort between the city and park district, the community bike path utilizes park pathways and shared roadways inside our city limits. The trail is 7 miles in length and easily navigable by riders of all ages.
Nachusa Grassland’s Bison Herd and John Deere Historic Site loop
Nachusa Grassland’s Bison Herd – Dixon Riverfront Reagan Statue – John Deere Historic Site loop
38 mile route starting at the historic Oregon Depot passing Nachusa Grassland’s Bison Herd then on to the Dixon Riverfront and Reagan Statue then back through Grand Detour John Deere Historic Site ending at boardwalk of Oregon Park West
Byron Nuclear Rock River Loop
24 mile route starting at the historic Oregon Depot passing the Chana Two-Room Schoolhouse and north past the Byron Exelon Generating Station through downtown Byron and then back to Oregon via Route 2 along the scenic Rock River
Mt Morris via Oregon Trail and the Rock River
25 mile route starting at the historic Oregon Depot traveling north along the scenic Rock River then heading west via quiet country roads to Mt Morris and then meandering back along Oregon Trail Road to Oregon Park West
Stillman Valley – Payne’s Point Loop
30 mile loop starting at the historic Oregon Depot traveling through Payne’s Point to Stillman Valley and back to Oregon
44 mile route starting at the historic Oregon Depot following the Rock River north until heading west on scenic West Grove Road to Forreston and then back through Mt Morris and ending up back in Oregon via Oregon Trail road
Rochelle – Chana Loop
42 flat miles starting at the historic Oregon Depot going to Rochelle and returning thru Chana
Polo – Mt Morris Loop
40 mile loop starting at the historic Oregon Depot traveling west to Mt Morris and then on to Polo and back Oregon
Gravel, Chips, Hills and a ride along the Rock River
40 mile route starting at historic Oregon Depot heading west via some of the less traveled and more scenic areas near Oregon. Ride a combination of gravel and chip seal roads through Mt Morris and Leaf River and end up with scenic cruise back to Oregon along the Rock River
